Update 6/7/22 DONATIONS
We'll be setting up a donation area for gently used books and art supplies in our greenhouse on Indian Trail & Falls Rd to get the first library off to a solid start. Our libraries have already been gifted a box of new children's books from a dear friend so we're on our way! Since the little free libraries work on the premise of 'take a book, leave a book' we will fill our library up initially and it should sustain on its own with a few donations from time to time. We're hoping to have the library opening this month!
At our LEHA meeting there was interest in learning more about the local source of the wood for our libraries. His name is Cecil Griffin and in this video he is cutting local yellow pine for our local Little Free Libraries. Thanks to Michael & Kathy for finding this local sawyer and drying the wood in their garage for the neighborhood (pic below)!

5/8/22 IDEA “What is one great idea we can build and share for our neighborhood? A Free Library! We all have books, magazines etc that we hate to dispose of, especially when someone else can use it….this is a great way to share resources and a great way for our children to get excited about “what is in the little library today?” Thanks to all who made it possible!“ — Ronnie Graham
Forest Hills Rd
At the beginning of this year, Ronnie recommended the Little Free Library to the board. The LEHA board thought it’d be a great addition so we got rolling on planning. Thank you to Ronnie for the idea.
PLANNING & EXECUTION
Board members have been researching little free libraries, recruiting folks to offer their skills and talents, and securing locally-milled lumber. We plan to have 2 libraries, one sited on each side of the neighborhood, so that they can be accessed by as many neighbors as possible. One will be located at the lake by the picnic benches and one near the intersection of Buena Vista & Collums Roads. Two carpenters (Kathy Dunlap and Carl Seashore) have volunteered to design and build the libraries. Thank you to Kathy and Carl for their time and energy.
We are thrilled to announce that the building of the first of our little free libraries has been completed (see below)! Many thanks to Kathy and Michael Goy for planning and building
this structure. Since it has 3 compartments, there’ll be a range of books, as well as art items, writing and drawing tools, and craft supplies for budding artists, writers, and creators. We hope to have it installed soon -- we'll keep you posted!
